Helicopter crashes off the coast of Hawaii: 1 dead
One person has died after a helicopter, reported to belong to a tour company, crashed in the US. Search and rescue operations have been launched for two missing people.
It has been announced that one person has died and two others are missing after a helicopter crashed into the ocean off the coast of Kauai Island in the US state of Hawaii.
According to the CBS News website, hikers in the area witnessed a helicopter crashing about a quarter-mile off the Na Pali coast and reported it to the police at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time. Authorities stated that the Robinson R44 helicopter belonged to an air tour company named Ali'i Kaua'i Air Tours and Charters.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THE ACCIDENT
Following the accident, a body was recovered at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time yesterday. Search and rescue operations have been launched for the two people reported missing. Police have not yet released any information regarding the identities of the deceased or the missing individuals.
Following the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a temporary flight restriction over the scene while operations in the area continue. It was stated that the Coast Guard is participating in the ongoing search and rescue efforts, while the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
