How Chinese President Xi welcomed US President Trump
Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed Donald Trump, the first US president to visit his country in 9 years, with a grand official ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People.
US President Donald Trump, who arrived in the country's capital, Beijing, yesterday as part of his official visit to China, has begun his diplomatic engagements, which are expected to last 2 days.
Trump, the first US president to visit China in 9 years, was welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping with a grand official ceremony held in his honor at the Great Hall of the People. After shaking hands and greeting their respective official delegations, the two leaders stood at attention on a platform set up in the middle of the ceremonial area while the national anthems of China and the US were played.
Later, walking along the red carpet and passing in front of the honor guard and children who participated in the welcoming ceremony with flags in their hands, Xi and Trump entered the Great Hall of the People to begin diplomatic talks.
In his speech during the part of the meeting open to the press, Xi stated that he was very happy to host Trump in Beijing, saying, "Welcome back to China after 9 years. The whole world is following our meeting." Noting that the world is undergoing a major transformation and that the international situation is volatile and turbulent, Xi said, "The world is at a new crossroads." Pointing out that China-US relations are important for overcoming global challenges and for the world to achieve greater stability, Xi asked, "For the prosperity of the peoples of our two countries and the future of humanity, can we build a brighter future together for our bilateral relations?"
"WE HAVE MORE COMMON INTERESTS THAN DIFFERENCES"
Congratulating Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, Xi said, "I have always believed that our countries have more common interests than differences. The success of one of us is an opportunity for the other, and stable bilateral relations are good for the world. China and the US will benefit from cooperation and lose from conflict. We should be partners, not rivals. In the new era, we should help each other succeed, develop together, and find a reasonable way for great powers to get along with each other." Xi added, "Mr. President, I look forward to working with you to determine the course of China-US relations to make 2026 a turning point, and to our discussions on major issues that are important to our countries and the world."
"WE WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL FUTURE TOGETHER"
US President Donald Trump began his remarks by thanking Xi. Emphasizing that he found the welcoming ceremony held in his honor very impressive, especially the children who participated, Trump said, "You and I have known each other for a long time. As a matter of fact, we have the longest-standing relationship between any two presidents of the two countries, and that is an honor for me. We have had a wonderful relationship. We have gotten along very well." Reminding that they have previously resolved difficulties through mutual communication, Trump said, "We will have a wonderful future together. I have great respect for China and the work you do. You are a wonderful leader." Noting that sometimes people do not like to express this, Trump said, "But I say it anyway because it is true. I only tell the truth."
"THIS IS A BIG AND IMPORTANT MEETING"
Reminding that he also brought senior executives of US companies to his China visit, Trump said, "They are here today to pay their respects to you and to China. They are looking forward to trade and doing business, and this will be completely mutual for us." Expressing that he is looking forward to the upcoming meetings for this reason, Trump said, "This is a big and important meeting. There are those who say this is perhaps the biggest summit ever. They say they have never remembered anything like this before. I can say that people in the US are talking about nothing else. However, it is an honor to be here with you. It is an honor to be your friend. The relationship between China and the US will be better than ever before."
