Hungarian President Katalin Novak has resigned following public outcry over her decision to pardon a person convicted as an accomplice in covering up a child sexual abuse case.
Hungarian President Katalin Novak has resigned following the backlash caused by her decision to pardon a person convicted in a sexual abuse case.
SHE RESIGNED
The person who was granted the pardon had been sentenced to more than three years in prison in 2018 for helping to cover up the sexual abuse committed by an institution director, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually abusing at least 10 children between 2004 and 2016.
Under pressure, Novak resigned.
In a speech broadcast on state television, Novak said, "I made a mistake. Today is the last day I address you as president."
