Hungary to vote on Sweden's NATO membership: US senators' meeting request rejected
The Hungarian Parliament will vote on Sweden's NATO membership on Monday, February 26. Following Turkey's approval of Sweden's membership, Hungary was the last country that had not yet ratified Sweden's accession.

In the parliamentary session to be held on Monday, Hungary will vote on Sweden's application for NATO membership. Prior to the vote, it remains unclear which way Hungary will decide.
The request to vote on Sweden's NATO membership in the session came from Mate Kocsis, the parliamentary group leader of the ruling Hungarian Civic Alliance (Fidesz) party. In a statement on his Facebook account, Kocsis had expressed that his party is open to approving Sweden's membership.
US SENATORS' MEETING REQUEST REJECTED
Meanwhile, according to a report by the Budapest Times, a request for a meeting by a group of US senators who traveled to Budapest ahead of the vote and wanted to meet with government officials was rejected. Democratic New Hampshire Senator and co-chair of the Senate NATO Observer Group Jeanne Shaheen stated on Sunday that they were disappointed. While reminding that Hungary is the last country that has not approved Sweden's membership, the senator added that they would submit a proposal to Congress to encourage Hungary to approve Sweden's membership. In her statement, Shaheen did not provide details on what kind of proposal they would submit to encourage Hungary.
