International airlines suspend flights to the Middle East: Is war imminent?

Airlines operating flights to the Middle East worldwide are changing their schedules and suspending flights to the region. The decisions to postpone and cancel flights are being linked to the possibility of Israel launching ground operations in addition to its recent airstrikes on Lebanon.

According to a report by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Wizz Air has temporarily suspended its flights to Tel Aviv and the Jordanian capital, Amman, for today.

Similarly, British Airways has decided to suspend its flights to Tel Aviv and Amman for two days.

German airline Lufthansa announced that the cancellation of its flights to and from Israel has been extended until October 14.

This decision will also apply to other airlines in the Lufthansa Group, including Austrian Airlines, Swiss Air, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings.

According to Haaretz, despite all these cancellations, a spokesperson for the Israel Airports Authority noted that Ben Gurion Airport is operating as usual for both arrivals and departures and that no flights have been diverted to other countries.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) also announced that flights between Baku and Tel Aviv have been suspended due to recent events and security concerns in Israel.

According to a report by the newspaper Yediot Ahronot, Hungary's Wizz Air and Spain's Iberia airline have also suspended flights to Israel for security reasons.

Israel recently carried out 150 airstrikes on Lebanon in a single night. The attacks were recorded as the largest air operations conducted in a single day since World War II.

TURKISH AIRLINES ALSO DECIDED TO CANCEL

On the other hand, many international airlines, primarily Turkish Airlines, have decided to stop flights to Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

It was reported that the French airline Air France will continue to suspend flights to Beirut due to the security situation. In a statement from Air France, it was announced that flights to Beirut have been canceled until October 1. A spokesperson for the company stated that the previously suspended Paris-Tel Aviv flights have resumed as of the weekend.
