Iran approves bill imposing restrictions and fees on transit through the Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has approved a bill regarding transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Commission member Mojtaba Zarei announced that the draft bill on strategic action for the security and sustainable development of the Strait of Hormuz received preliminary approval during today's commission meeting, making it ready to be submitted to the Parliament's General Assembly.

Restrictions and fee regulations for transit are planned

Zarei stated that the draft includes provisions on security regulations for the strait, maritime transport safety, and environmental issues, as well as financial regulations and a rial-based transit fee system. He also noted that the bill contains articles regarding the prohibition of transit for the US and Israel, and the imposition of restrictions on the transit of countries participating in unilateral sanctions against Iran. Furthermore, Zarei indicated that the draft includes regulations on the implementation of Iran's and its armed forces' sovereign role over the strait, as well as articles concerning cooperation with Oman regarding the legal status of the strait.
