Iran designates Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization
In retaliation for Ottawa's decision to add the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist organizations, the Iranian government has announced that it recognizes and has designated the Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization.
Retaliation has come from Iran to Canada. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, in response to the Canadian government's decision to add the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to its list of terrorist organizations, it has designated the Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization.
In a written statement from the ministry, the following expressions were used: "The Canadian government, in violation of the fundamental principles of international law, has recognized the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is accepted as one of the main elements of the country's official armed forces, as a terrorist organization. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with the provision stipulating that all countries supporting the aforementioned decision of the US will be evaluated within the scope of reciprocity, hereby declares that it recognizes and designates the Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization within the framework of reciprocity by including it in the scope of the relevant law."
CANADA'S IRGC DECISION FOLLOWS THE US
The US administration added the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to its list of "foreign terrorist organizations" in 2019, and Iran responded by announcing that it had included the US military on its list of "terrorist organizations." The Canadian government, following the US decision, announced in 2024 that it had added the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to its list of terrorist organizations.
