Iran: Foreign-flagged cargo ship runs aground in the Strait of Hormuz

A foreign-flagged cargo ship has run aground in the Strait of Hormuz after veering off the route designated by Iranian authorities for vessel transit.

According to reports from Iranian state television, the ship left the navigation corridor established by Iran, entered shallow waters, and ran aground. The report did not provide information regarding the name of the ship or the country whose flag it was flying.

Iranian state television emphasized that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz must comply with the instructions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

The report further stated that the IRGC had previously warned captains, ship owners, and shipping companies multiple times that transits outside the route designated as the "authorized route" in the Persian Gulf could lead to irreparable incidents.

Under the fifth article of the memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran, it is known that Iran is responsible for ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day period in which mine-clearing operations are being conducted in the region.
