Iran issues statement on meeting with Elon Musk

Iran has denied claims that Tesla and SpaceX CEO and X owner Elon Musk, who is expected to head the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the US, met with Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani.

In a statement regarding the allegations during a state television program, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted the following:

"Absolutely no such meeting took place. This is a fabricated story put forward by the US press," he said. Araghchi added, "The news appeared in the press at 1 a.m. last night, Iran time. I saw the report in the morning and did not consider it serious.

We did not see it as an allegation worthy of a response until midday. We waited for it to be morning in New York. I know that such a meeting cannot take place without our knowledge.

In our discussion with our UN mission, it was stated that this was a fabricated story put forward by the US press. I quickly gave the instruction for the report to be denied."

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, in his statement on the matter, stated that the meeting in question definitely did not take place and expressed their surprise at the propaganda created by the US media on this subject.

CLAIMS OF A SECRET MEETING BETWEEN MUSK AND IRAVANI

The US-based New York Times newspaper, citing two Iranian officials, had reported that billionaire Elon Musk, known for his closeness to the new US President Donald Trump, met with Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, in New York on Monday, November 11.

It was stated that the meeting focused on how to reduce tensions between Iran and the US. It was reported that the meeting, which took place at Musk's request, lasted more than an hour and that the location was chosen by Iravani and kept secret.
