Iran issues statement regarding the interim government established in Syria

Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, a statement regarding the interim government established in Syria has come from Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei. Speaking at a weekly press conference, Baghaei said, "We have no direct connection with the new administration in Syria."

Expressing that they are in dialogue with Turkey regarding Syria, Baghaei said, "We are holding both regional and multilateral talks concerning Syria. Syria is one of the important issues discussed and addressed between the two countries. Turkey is an important neighbor of ours, and our relations have always been within the framework of a good neighbor policy. We are able to communicate openly and clearly on issues where we do not agree."

'IRAN NEVER LEFT THE NEGOTIATION TABLE'

Touching upon nuclear negotiations with the US in the new era, Baghaei denied claims that the team of the new US President Donald Trump had sent messages to Iran regarding nuclear negotiations, stating, "I have no information on this matter. However, Iran has never left the negotiation table. If the other side shows seriousness regarding negotiations, we can negotiate to secure Iran's interests."

TRAVEL WARNING

Baghaei stated, "Due to the current situation in Syria, we are warning our citizens not to travel to Syria. In the recent period, our diplomats and military advisors have also left Syria. I do not believe there are any Iranian citizens currently in Syria."
