Iran reacts to new US sanctions decision

Iran has reacted to the latest US sanctions decision against the country. In a written statement issued by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reference was made to a letter sent by US President Donald Trump to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, noting that while three rounds of indirect talks have been held between the two countries so far, this step contradicts diplomacy and undermines trust. The statement said, "In these talks, the Iranian delegation clearly presented its demands for the right to peaceful nuclear energy in accordance with international law and the lifting of sanctions, and demonstrated a serious will for a fair and lasting agreement."

Pointing out that the US administration's simultaneous continuation of its sanctions policy harms the negotiation process, the statement included the following: "The continuation of illegal sanctions and the increase in pressure on Iran's commercial partners reveal the US's insincere approach to diplomacy and deepen mistrust."

The statement continued by emphasizing that Iran will not compromise on its rightful and legitimate position within the framework of international law, stating, "It is clear that the US cannot achieve any results through threats and pressure. Diplomacy is the only valid path to resolving this issue."

US IMPOSES SANCTIONS ON IRAN AND CHINA

The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had announced that it imposed sanctions on 6 individuals and 6 entities from Iran and China on the grounds that they contributed to the supply of materials for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) ballistic missile program.

In the statement made by the ministry, it was stated that the individuals and entities in question provided material and technical support to Iran's missile program, and in this context, their assets in the US would be frozen and US citizens would be prohibited from engaging in commercial activities with these individuals and institutions.

SECONDARY SANCTIONS FROM TRUMP

US President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account, targeted countries and individuals purchasing oil from Iran, stating, "All purchases of Iranian oil or petrochemical products must stop immediately. Any country or person that purchases any amount of oil or petrochemical products from Iran will be subject to immediate secondary sanctions. They will not be able to trade with the US in any way."
