Iran reacts to US attack, calls it a 'violation of the ceasefire'

In a statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the US military's attack on coastal surveillance and radar facilities in the Sirik region and Qeshm Island was condemned.

It was stated that the targeted facilities were tasked with ensuring the security of the country's borders and maritime traffic in international waterways, and that the action in question was a clear violation of the ceasefire and an attack on Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

'RESPONSE GIVEN WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF LEGITIMATE SELF-DEFENSE'

The statement emphasized that this action by the US disregards the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter, noting that the Iranian Armed Forces provided a proportionate and effective response to this action within the framework of the right to legitimate self-defense, and that the attackers were not allowed to achieve their objectives. It was stated that the Washington administration has no intention of de-escalating tensions in the region, and a warning was issued that the US government would be held responsible for any potential escalation of tension and all consequences of these illegal acts.

CALL TO REGIONAL COUNTRIES AND THE UNITED NATIONS

The statement, which emphasized Iran's right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, also reminded regional countries of the principle of 'good neighborliness.' Neighboring countries were requested not to allow their borders and resources to be used for aggressive acts against Iran.

The Ministry also addressed United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the UN Security Council, and other international institutions, calling on them to immediately show an effective reaction against this US ceasefire violation and its illegal actions, and to prevent the normalization of these steps that threaten regional and global peace.
