Iran sets new conditions in negotiations with the US

Iran has conveyed its response to US diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict, which has been ongoing for more than two months, to the US administration via Pakistan. In its response, the Iranian government highlighted both demands regarding regional peace and certain conditions concerning its own nuclear program.

The Tehran administration demanded that, for peace talks to begin, the conflict must be completely ended and the American blockade on the port must be lifted. In return, it proposed the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels and the normalization of maritime traffic.

Regarding the nuclear program, Iran stated that a portion of its highly enriched uranium stockpile would be diluted, and the remaining portion could be placed under the supervision of a third country. However, it requested guarantees for the return of the uranium should the negotiations reach a stalemate in the future if these stocks are sent to a third country. The Iranian side firmly rejected the demand for the complete dismantling of nuclear facilities.

While Tehran is open to halting uranium enrichment activities for a certain period, it argued that the 20-year duration proposed by America is too long and should be kept much shorter. Additionally, it was proposed that the parties provide a 30-day non-aggression guarantee in the negotiations and reach an agreement on an additional 30-day negotiation calendar.
