Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: US is not stopping Israel's genocide in Gaza

Baghaei evaluated his country's foreign policy agenda and regional developments during the weekly press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. When asked about the elections in the US won by Donald Trump, Baghaei stated that the election results do not concern them.

Emphasizing that the country's policy toward the region, Israel's genocide and war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, and its stance against Iran are what matter, Baghaei said, "For the last 4 years, the US's hostile policy toward Iran has continued, and the current US government has not fulfilled the promises and claims it made during the election regarding nuclear negotiations and other issues."

Pointing out that the US is preventing the cessation of the genocide and war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon, Baghaei stated, "The United Nations Security Council has been virtually paralyzed in the face of the war in Gaza and Lebanon due to US obstruction."

Rejecting the US Department of Justice's allegations that Iran is linked to assassination plots against Trump, Baghaei noted the following:

"The timing of this claim is suspicious. We categorically reject any interference. Previous US administrations have also created obstacles for their political rivals. These claims are a way of laying mines in the complex Iran-US relationship."

Reiterating that the claims that Iran could produce nuclear weapons are not true, Baghaei said that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously stated in his remarks on the subject that Iran rejects nuclear weapons production both in terms of religious fatwa and defense policy.

Stating that Iran's nuclear program is "peaceful," Baghaei noted that some updates are needed to make the nuclear deal, which could not be implemented after Trump unilaterally withdrew his country in 2018, implementable again.

When asked about the visit of Saudi Arabian Chief of General Staff Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili to Tehran and the state of relations between the two countries, Baghaei said, "Iran-Saudi Arabia talks have been continuing recently in a constant and very beneficial manner. The visit of the high-ranking Saudi military official is also in this direction. We hope this is the necessary foundation for strengthening relations in every field."

Baghaei added that the countries of the region have a common understanding regarding increasing regional cooperation for their own security.
