Iranian government declares national mourning

Protests that began in Iran over the economic crisis and demands for freedom, and which have been continuing for days, continue to increase in intensity across the country.

It was reported that at least 490 civilians lost their lives as a result of security forces' interventions in demonstrations held in many cities across the country, while 49 security personnel lost their lives in the clashes.

The Iranian administration had imposed restrictions on internet access in order to make it difficult to organize the protests and to prevent the spread of footage showing the interventions of security forces.

3 DAYS OF NATIONAL MOURNING DECLARED

While the protests continue, the Iranian Cabinet announced that 3 days of national mourning have been declared across the country.

While the Cabinet claimed that the demonstrations were directed by the US and Israel, it described the security personnel and regime supporters who lost their lives during the protests as those who "lost their lives in the national resistance."

For the demonstrators, the phrase "urban terrorists who resorted to ISIS tactics during the protests" was used.

Within the scope of the decision taken, a call was also made for Iranian citizens to participate in the national resistance march planned to be held today at 14:00 local time.
