Iranian President Pezeshkian confirms talks with the US
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has publicly acknowledged for the first time the existence of talks between Iran and the US, while reacting to attacks that occurred during the negotiation process. Pezeshkian warned against Israel's efforts to expand the war in the region and also voiced criticism toward certain Muslim countries.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in an interview with Iranian State Television, confirmed for the first time in public that his country is engaged in indirect contacts with the United States. Pezeshkian strongly condemned the attacks carried out on Iran's energy infrastructure while the talks were ongoing.
Pezeshkian expressed his reaction by stating, "We appreciate the efforts made by some friendly and neighboring countries, including Pakistan, to stop the war. However, we were attacked twice during the negotiations, and now we are witnessing the targeting of energy infrastructure despite Washington's promises."
Furthermore, addressing the recent attack by Israel on Iran's largest iron and steel plant, Pezeshkian emphasized that the bombings targeting infrastructure and the assassinations of high-ranking Iranian officials have undermined the credibility of the other side.
Stating that US bases in the region might have played a role in the attacks, the President said, "It is an unfortunate situation that the territories of some Muslim countries are being used to attack Iran. The Zionist entity plans to spread the war to countries in the region, and these countries must be careful."
