Iran's condition for a ceasefire: Guarantees must be given that attacks will not be repeated

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said in a television program he attended that China, Russia, France, and some regional countries have been in contact with Iran regarding stopping the war or achieving a ceasefire.

Gharibabadi stated, "Such requests are being voiced by some countries, but Iran's position on this matter is clear. Because Iran is not the party that started the war and the aggression.

Therefore, even if a request to stop actions is brought to the agenda, Iran is not the party that will stop its defense.

Because Iran is not engaging in an aggressive act; it is defending itself," he said.

"A GUARANTEE MUST BE PROVIDED"

Stating that Iran's actions are carried out within the framework of legitimate self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations (UN) Charter, Gharibabadi said, "One of these conditions is to be sure that aggressive actions will not be repeated.

A country that has been attacked continues its defensive measures until it is certain that this attack will not be repeated," he said.

Regarding the possibility of a ceasefire, Gharibabadi also stated, "If a ceasefire is to be achieved or the war is to be stopped, a guarantee must be provided that aggressive actions against Iran will not be repeated.

Otherwise, if an attack occurs again in a few months, such a ceasefire will have no meaning," he expressed.
