Iran's new President Pezeshkian makes first speech after victory

Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian met with the public and members of his campaign headquarters in the capital, Tehran, today following his election victory.

Arriving at the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to deliver his first post-election speech, Pezeshkian was welcomed with a military ceremony inside the shrine.

Following the welcome, a large crowd gathered to see Pezeshkian as he visited the mausoleum. In his speech, thanking everyone who voted for him, he said, "I will always be a listener for you and will strive to solve the problems of society. Everyone, whether they voted for me or not, is equal in my eyes. I address the citizens who voted for Jalili: now is the time for camaraderie for Iran. I will be at the service of all Iranians and I will work for you."

"I DID NOT MAKE FALSE PROMISES"

Noting that he would be fair in the country's administration and would not separate different political groups, Pezeshkian said, "We will solve the existing problems in cooperation with the Parliament.

I did not make any promises that I could not fulfill. For years, promises and pledges have been made from podiums, but none of them are fulfilled," he said.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR KHAMENEI, MY NAME WOULD NOT HAVE EMERGED FROM THE BALLOT BOXES"

Thanking Iranian Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for his election as president, Pezeshkian said, "If it weren't for him (Khamenei), my name would not have emerged from the ballot boxes.

Here, at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini, I promise to continue his path and the path of the martyrs. The work of the government we will form will not be easy at all, but with God's permission, we will overcome the difficulties.

We will increase harmony, cooperation, and coordination between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches," he stated.

RECEIVED 53.7 PERCENT OF THE VOTES

Following the presidential election in Iran, Tabriz MP Masoud Pezeshkian, who is of Turkic descent, became the country's new president by receiving 53.7 percent of the votes.

Reformist Pezeshkian's rival, conservative former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, received 44.4 percent of the votes.

High Election Commission Spokesperson Mohsen Eslami had announced after the vote counting process that the voter turnout was 49.8 percent.
