Islamophobic posts in Facebook groups managed by Conservative Party members in the UK

According to a report by the British newspaper The Guardian, Unearthed, the investigative unit of the environmental organization Greenpeace, examined 36 closed Facebook groups that criticize Khan's policies.

Examining the administrators of the groups, which have a total of 38 thousand members, Unearthed also revealed that the same 3 individuals serve as administrators in the groups.

Revealing that one of these individuals is a Conservative Party local councilor, one is a manager responsible for the party's digital campaigns, and another is a party member, Unearthed determined that other local councilors, local officials, and party staff also serve as administrators in the groups.

While Unearthed announced that Susan Hall, the Conservative Party's London Mayoral candidate, is a member of 6 of the 36 groups, Hall joined a 7th group today.

Conservative Party MPs are also among the group members.

"HE SOLD LONDON TO THE ISLAMISTS"

In the Facebook groups in question, Khan's project to charge a daily fee for high-emission vehicles driving in London (ULEZ) stands out as the most criticized policy.

Group members, in addition to criticizing or insulting Khan, also make posts targeting ULEZ cameras.

While violent acts such as smashing or painting over ULEZ cameras are praised in the posts, accusations such as "terror sympathizer" and "he sold London to the Islamists" are directed at Khan.

In one of the posts in the groups in question, the comment, "The dark forces that destroyed Princess Diana could also destroy this money-grabbing parasite," draws attention.

Another post included statements that Khan "will face a major uprising of the people and will see the times when Muslims can no longer walk the streets."

"I THINK A SERIOUS CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED"

Speaking to The Guardian, Khan stated in his remarks that the issue is important in terms of the safety of himself, his family, and municipal employees.

Stating that if Hall wins the election, she would be the most dangerous and discriminatory Mayor of London, Khan noted that his party has filed a complaint with the police regarding the groups.

Labour MP Dawn Butler, in a letter she wrote to the London Metropolitan Police, stated, "I believe these posts constitute serious racial and religious crimes. I find it shocking that these crimes are being committed in groups where many prominent Conservative Party MPs are members. Hall has not explained why she is a member of these hate-peddling groups, but Londoners will be concerned that she tolerates this behavior."

Ami McCarthy from Greenpeace, in her statement, assessed, "Any respectable politician would apologize and leave these Facebook groups the moment they saw posts containing racism, Islamophobia, and crime. However, Susan Hall did not."

While the Conservative Party did not make a statement on the matter, an unnamed party spokesperson stated that they explicitly condemn all forms of discriminatory language and that they do not encourage or turn a blind eye to vandalism and crime.
