Israel attacks UN observation tower in Lebanon
The Israeli army has attacked a United Nations observation tower located in the Marwahin region of southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army has destroyed the observation tower and surrounding perimeter fence of a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) position in Marwahin, southern Lebanon.
'DELIBERATELY DESTROYED'
In a statement released by UNIFIL, it was stated, "Earlier today, an IDF bulldozer deliberately demolished a UN position's observation tower and perimeter fence in Marwahin." The statement reminded the Israeli army and other actors of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property, and to respect the inviolability of UN premises at all times.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that breaching UN positions is a violation of international law, adding, "The IDF has repeatedly demanded that UNIFIL vacate its positions along the Blue Line and has deliberately damaged UN positions. Despite the pressure exerted on the mission and the troop-contributing countries, peacekeepers remain in all positions."
