Israel targets building housing displaced people in Lebanon

Eight people lost their lives in an attack carried out by Israel on the town of Ain Yaacoub in Akkar, located in northern Lebanon.

According to a statement by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, 8 people were killed and 14 others were injured in the attack on a building in Ain Yaacoub, according to initial reports.

Local sources reported that the targeted building housed Lebanese and Syrian displaced people who had fled the south of the country due to Israeli attacks and arrived in Akkar.

As search and rescue efforts continue in the area, there are concerns that the number of dead and injured may increase.

In Akkar, which is located in the far north of the country and is known to be home to Lebanese Turkmens, Israel had previously targeted a bridge but had not carried out an attack resulting in loss of life.

The Israeli army, which has been engaged in controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8, 2023, launched hundreds of airstrikes on September 23 against southern Lebanese cities as well as the Bekaa and Baalbek regions.

According to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, a total of 3,243 people have been killed, including 194 children and 621 women, and 14,134 people have been injured since October 8, 2023.
