Israel: There will be no ceasefire in Gaza

In a press conference held via the videoconferencing platform Zoom, Gendelman stated that a ceasefire would give Hamas the opportunity to regroup and recover, and therefore they would not allow it.

Noting that the US has stood by Tel Aviv in the face of pressure to stop the war against Hamas, but that there are also some disagreements between the two countries, Gendelman said, "Yes, there are disagreements between us and Washington regarding the post-war process. However, we hope to reach a common understanding on this matter. A ceasefire may be possible after we destroy Hamas."

CEASEFIRE ADOPTED AT UNGA

Following the US use of its veto power to render the United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC) dysfunctional, a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was voted on in the General Assembly, receiving the support of 153 out of 193 countries, while being rejected by 10 countries.

The draft resolution, introduced by Egypt and co-sponsored by approximately 100 countries including Turkey, was voted on last night at the UN General Assembly's Special Emergency Session on Palestine.

The draft resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority with the support of 153 countries, against 23 "abstentions" and 10 "no" votes. The countries that opposed it were Israel and the US, as well as Austria, Czechia, Guatemala, Liberia, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, and Paraguay.
