Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Dermer submits resignation letter to Netanyahu

Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, a close ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has resigned from his post. Dermer submitted his resignation letter to Netanyahu. In his letter, Dermer stated that when he joined the government in December 2022, he had promised his family he would serve as minister for only two years, noting that he had extended his term twice with his family's approval.

Addressing why he extended his term in his letter, Dermer said, "The first time was to work with you to eliminate the existential threat posed by Iran's nuclear military capability, and the second was to end the war in Gaza on Israel's terms and bring our hostages home."

Thanking Netanyahu for the opportunity to serve, Dermer said, "This government will be remembered for managing both the October 7 attack and the two-year seven-front war that followed. I do not know what awaits me in the future, but there is one thing I know for sure. In everything I do, I will continue to do my part to secure the future of the Jewish people."

It was stated that although Dermer is leaving his government post, he will continue to work as Netanyahu's special envoy and will play a role in expanding the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and Arab countries. Dermer's responsibilities regarding relations with the U.S. are expected to be transferred to Israel's Ambassador to the U.S., Yechiel Leiter.
