Retaliatory strike from Israel to Iran!
American media, citing US officials, reported that Israel has launched an attack on Iranian territory. Iranian state television announced that air defense systems were activated and that 3 drones seen over Isfahan were destroyed. Meanwhile, all flights in Iran have been suspended.
The news of Israel's attack on Iran, first reported by the American channel ABC News citing a US official, was later followed by CBS News and CNN.
According to reports citing unnamed US officials, Israel launched a counter-attack against Iran early Friday morning local time.
ABC News noted that claims suggesting Israel also struck certain areas in Syria and Iraq have not been confirmed.
A US official speaking to CNN emphasized that the Biden administration did not "give the green light" to this Israeli counter-attack on Iran and that the US does not want a comprehensive conflict in the region.
ISRAEL INFORMED THE US BEFORE THE ATTACK
The official noted that Israel informed the US on Thursday that it would carry out a "limited counter-attack against Iran" and that the US did not "support" this attack.
The official also added that the area struck in the attack was not a nuclear facility.
The US Department of State and the Pentagon have not yet officially confirmed the attack in question.
The Iranian press had announced that explosion sounds were heard in the northeast of Isfahan province, which hosts an Iranian Air Force base.
In the state television report, it was stated, "News sources report that a relatively loud explosion sound was heard in Isfahan province. The source of this sound has not yet been explained."
The semi-official Fars News Agency also reported, citing local sources, that an explosion was heard in the city of Qahjavarestan, northeast of Isfahan.
Stating that the cause of these sounds is not yet known, Fars reported that the city of Qahjavarestan is located near Isfahan Airport and the 8th Air Force Base of the Army.
ALL FLIGHTS IN IRAN SUSPENDED
It was stated by Iranian state television that the nuclear facilities located in the city of Isfahan were not affected and that nuclear sites were not targeted. It is not yet clear whether there were attacks on other Iranian cities.
Meanwhile, all flights in Iran have been suspended.
