Ongoing crises and conflicts in various regions of the world have brought assessments regarding countries' defense potentials to the agenda. In a recently published study, the 50 countries most difficult to conquer in a potential large-scale war were ranked.

In the list, which is based on artificial intelligence-supported analyses and military reports, both the natural barriers and military experience of the countries were taken into account. With the strategic location of the Anatolian peninsula and its long-standing military experience, Turkey also stood out in this ranking.

THE COUNTRIES ON THE LIST HAVE BEEN REVEALED

Criteria included the countries' mountainous terrain, isolation advantages on islands, vast surface areas, harsh climate and geographical conditions, and military structure elements. Among these countries, New Zealand stands out with its geographical isolation, while Switzerland stands out with the Alps and its advanced network of bunkers. Similarly, factors such as Japan's island defense and advanced military technologies, Russia's massive territory and harsh winter conditions, the US being surrounded by two major oceans and its rate of civilian gun ownership, and China's population size and depth were the main factors that shaped the list.

In addition, Afghanistan's impassable mountains, Vietnam's forest texture and experience in guerrilla warfare, England's barriers providing natural protection via the English Channel, and Canada's remote regions in the polar belt were among the other notable elements.

TURKEY IS ALSO ON THE LIST

Turkey, on the other hand, was shown as one of the important members of the list with Anatolia's natural defense advantage, geographical diversity, and military accumulation that has hosted different empires throughout history. Its mountainous regions, ability to control transit lines, and strong military doctrine make it difficult to invade.

Among the other countries that draw attention in the study, Iran stands out with its mountainous structure and defense systems; India with the natural barriers offered by the Himalayan Mountains; and Brazil with the difficult-to-access environment of the Amazon Rainforests. Among the countries participating from different continents, Ethiopia, Nepal, Bhutan, Chile, and South Africa are also among the countries mentioned for their regional geographical advantages and military elements.
