Responding to questions at an event he attended in the city of Verona, Tajani commented on French President Emmanuel Macron's suggestion of the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, saying, "I believe that NATO should not enter Ukraine.

I hope that does not happen. Going there and entering into a war with Russia would mean the risk of World War III breaking out."

"GOING TO WAR SEEMS LIKE A MISTAKE TO ME"

Emphasizing that they are not at war with Russia, Tajani stated, "We are defending international law and Ukraine's freedom, but we are not entering into a war with Russia.

We are providing Kyiv with all kinds of military, economic, and technical tools, but going to war seems like a mistake to me, and all Italians do not want this."

Reiterating that there is no question of Italian troops going to Ukraine, Tajani noted that the Italian army is doing a good job in protecting commercial ships in the Red Sea, as well as in Lebanon, Iraq, and Africa, and is a bearer of peace.

When reminded that the words of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics and Head of State of the Vatican, in an interview with Swiss Radio and Television (RSI) on March 9, "I believe that the one who sees the situation, who thinks of the people, who has the courage of the white flag, to negotiate, is stronger," were met with backlash, Tajani argued that the Pope's words were distorted and that he actually wanted peace and was calling for negotiations to achieve it.
