Italy rejects Israel's extradition request
It has been reported that an Italian court has refused to extradite Palestinian national Anan Kamal Afif Yaeesh, who is being held in custody as a terror suspect and was sought by Israel.
According to reports in the national press, a decision has been reached regarding Israel's extradition request for 37-year-old Yaeesh, who was arrested in the city of L'Aquila on January 29 as a suspect in international terrorism and is being held in custody due to the charges against him.
The court of appeals in L'Aquila rejected the extradition request, taking into account the defense attorneys' argument that if Yaeesh were extradited to Israel, he would be subjected to treatment that could amount to torture, in violation of human rights.
TRIAL TO CONTINUE IN ITALY
It was stated that the trial of Yaeesh, who faces charges including planning attacks against Israelis, will continue in Italy.
Pro-Palestine supporters in Italy had been calling for the rejection of Anan Kamal Afif Yaeesh's extradition request during demonstrations protesting Israel's attacks on Gaza for some time.
