Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko spoke at the "Cairo Peace Summit" held in Egypt with the participation of heads of state and government to address developments in Gaza.

Noting that they are continuing close consultations with the two sides of the crisis, Palestine and Israel, as well as what she described as key regional actors, "Arab States and Iran," Kamikawa said, "The most immediate challenge right now is to minimize the deterioration of humanitarian aid. More than 1 million innocent people in Gaza are in an extremely difficult situation."

Kamikawa stated, "We must not allow the tragedy we are witnessing right now to close the window of opportunity for Middle East peace. We can only solve this problem through dialogue."

Recalling that the Japanese government announced earlier this week that they aim to provide 10 million dollars in emergency humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Kamikawa used the expression, "This is the first step of this aid. We are evaluating further aid based on the needs on the ground."

Emphasizing that her country continues to support a "two-state solution" in the region, Kamikawa said, "Japan has been supporting Palestine's 'confidence building and economic self-sufficiency,' which has served as the foundation of the peace process for decades. Japan's commitment to Palestine will never change."

As part of her visit to Cairo, the Japanese Minister had the opportunity to hold separate meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
