Jordan: Is the killing of 4,000 Palestinians and the destruction of 98,000 homes self-defense?

According to a statement published by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the X social media platform, Safadi drew attention to the approaches regarding the conflicts that began between Israel and Palestinian groups on October 7.

Stating that following the Israel-Palestine conflict, European media outlets have been asking Arab leaders with all their organs, "Do you condemn the killing of innocent civilians?", Safadi noted that they do condemn it and that they voiced this at the Arab League Foreign Ministers Meeting held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, a few days ago.

Pointing to the double-standard approaches regarding the war in Ukraine and Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, Safadi stated the following:

"Our people are asking, if depriving Ukrainians of food and medicine is a war crime, why is it not a war crime when Gazans are deprived of them? Why is the killing of innocent civilians in Ukraine and Yugoslavia a war crime, but not in Gaza?"

Drawing attention to the need to look at what the right to self-defense is according to international law, Safadi asked the question, "Let's speak with simple logic: is the killing of 4,000 Palestinians and the destruction of 98,000 homes self-defense?"
