KRG bans 3 Arab news channels
The government of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq has announced that it has banned the broadcasts of Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya, and Al-Hadath channels in the region, citing unprofessional broadcasting standards and hostile policies toward the Kurdish people.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), operating in northern Iraq, has decided to ban three prominent Arab news channels.
Mix Media, the region's largest digital broadcasting network operator, announced to the public that the broadcasts of Al Jazeera, Al-Arabiya, and Al-Hadath have been halted in accordance with government instructions.
It was stated that the decision to cut the broadcasts was conveyed to Mix Media via an official letter sent by the KRG Ministry of Culture. The document, which bears the signature of General Director of Media and Broadcasting Shirwan Abdullah Khurshid, stated that the broadcast content of the channels in question had been placed under review.
REASON: LEGAL VIOLATIONS AND UNETHICAL BROADCASTING
In the ministry's letter, it was alleged that the channels acted in violation of articles 2, 3, 7, and 9 of the Broadcasting Regulation Law. It was argued that the content was incompatible with journalistic professional principles and contained provocative, derogatory, and hate speech directed at Kurds.
While officials demanded that the banned broadcasts be stopped immediately, they warned that if legal regulations are not followed, more severe sanctions and legal proceedings will be initiated against the company.
