Listeria bacteria alert in the US: 9 people dead
In the US, 9 people have died from food poisoning after contracting the "listeria" bacteria from deli products belonging to a supplier company.
According to a report by the US broadcaster CNN, a statement released on the official website of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that more than 57 people who consumed deli products from the US-based company Boar's Head have been hospitalized.
It was stated that 9 people who ate sliced deli products from the Boar's Head company since May have lost their lives due to food poisoning linked to the transmission of the listeria bacteria.
Announcing that the number of cases could be higher than those reported so far, the CDC emphasized that this is the largest listeria outbreak seen in the US since 2011.
MORE THAN 3 MILLION KG OF PRODUCTS WERE RECALLED
In an investigation conducted by health authorities in the US state of Maryland, the listeria bacteria was detected in a deli product produced by the Boar's Head company.
The company had recalled more than 3 million kilograms of deli products due to the risk of bacteria. In a statement made by the company, it was reported that all of the recalled products had been collected from market shelves.
The listeria bacteria causes symptoms such as high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Those most affected by the bacteria are the elderly, pregnant women, infants, and patients with AIDS or diabetes, whose immune systems are not strong.
