Los Angeles protests: Claim of 500 Marines

The US press has put forward a new claim as protests against US President Donald Trump's anti-immigrant policies continue in the city of Los Angeles, California. In reports based on unnamed sources, it was alleged that the Trump administration would deploy 500 Marines due to the protests.

The reports claimed that the Marines would join National Guard units in Los Angeles over the weekend without the approval of California Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass.

Like the National Guard units, these Marines, if deployed, are prohibited from engaging in law enforcement activities such as making arrests unless Trump invokes the Insurrection Act.

TRUMP HAD ASSIGNED 2 THOUSAND NATIONAL GUARDS

Trump had signed a Presidential Memorandum assigning 2 thousand National Guards to the protests that intensified following a detention operation carried out against immigrants at various points in the city of Los Angeles by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). So far, approximately 300 National Guards have been deployed to the streets in Los Angeles.
