Macron calls for 'snap elections'! Dissolves parliament...

In the European Parliament elections, far-right leader Le Pen's party doubled the vote share of Macron's party.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his concern on Sunday evening over the rise of the far-right in the European Parliament (EP) elections.

Macron stated, "I have decided to call for snap elections. I am dissolving the National Assembly."

'THE RISE OF THE FAR-RIGHT IS DANGEROUS FOR EUROPE'

Evaluating the EP election results, Macron stated that the results were "not a good outcome for parties that defend Europe." Macron, who said, "The rise of nationalists and demagogues is a danger for our people as well as for our Europe, and for France's place in Europe and the world," emphasized that he had heard the voters' message and would not ignore it.

In his statement, Macron referred to the vote percentages received by the far-right and used the expression, "Therefore, I cannot act as if nothing has happened at the end of today."

FIRST ROUND OF ELECTIONS TO BE HELD ON JUNE 30, SECOND ROUND ON JULY 7

In his address to the nation, Macron said, "Therefore, with the authority granted to us by Article 12 of our constitution, and as a result of the consultations I have held, I have decided to give you the choice of your parliamentary future through the vote. In a few minutes, I will sign the decree calling for elections to be held on June 30 for the first round and July 7 for the second round."
