In a written statement from the WFP, it was noted that Tesfaye's 2.5 million dollar donation to Gaza corresponds to approximately 4 million food packages, and that this aid will provide a two-week food supply for 173 thousand Palestinians.

The statement expressed that Tesfaye's aid will provide significant support to efforts to deliver assistance to "1 million Gazans on the brink of starvation."

The statement, which noted that the WFP has provided food aid to approximately 764 thousand Palestinians so far, reported that aid has been increased, particularly during the "humanitarian pause" in the conflict.

"FAR BEYOND WHAT WAS ESTIMATED"

Corinne Fleischer, WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe, whose remarks were included in the statement, gave the message: "The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is far beyond what was estimated. The WFP is making intense efforts, but aid needs to be increased very significantly to be able to combat hunger in Gaza."

Artist Abel Tesfaye was appointed as one of the WFP's Goodwill Ambassadors in October 2021.

On the other hand, Tunisian actress Hend Sabry had announced that she resigned from her role as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador to protest the use of "starvation as a weapon of war" against the people living in Gaza under Israeli attacks.

Sabry had stated, "Together with our friends, we requested that an urgent call for aid be made for the children of Gaza, just as we have successfully worked in the past. We demand that the power of the World Food Programme be utilized to ensure a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to prevent the use of starvation as a weapon of war."
