Massacre in Nigeria: More than 100 dead
More than 100 people have lost their lives in attacks carried out by gunmen on villages in Nigeria's Plateau state.
Bokkos Local Government Chairman Monday Kasa stated in a press release that gunmen carried out attacks on villages in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi regions of Plateau state.
Noting that more than 100 people lost their lives and dozens were injured in the attacks, Kasa also stated that a large number of people were kidnapped. Kasa said that security forces have been dispatched to the region to find those abducted in the attacks.
Stating that many houses were set on fire during the attacks, Kasa announced that the gunmen also took food supplies they seized in the village with them. Kasa expressed that teams are continuing to collect bodies and that the death toll could rise.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attacks and instructed security units to apprehend those responsible immediately. Nigeria's Plateau state has recently been the scene of attacks by gunmen.
