Message from Zelensky to Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to criticisms from U.S. President Donald Trump, expressing his gratitude to the U.S. and Europe.
U.S. President Donald Trump had criticized the Ukrainian leadership during the ongoing peace talks in Geneva, stating, "The Ukrainian leadership has shown no gratitude for our efforts in any way." In a statement on social media, Trump described the Russia-Ukraine War as violent and horrific, adding, "If the U.S. and Ukraine had strong and proper leadership, this war would never have happened."
Following these remarks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to Trump in a statement on social media. Zelenskyy said, "Ukraine is grateful to every American and especially to President Trump for the aid that has saved the lives of Ukrainians, starting with Javelin missiles." Furthermore, thanking Europe, the G7, and G20 countries for their assistance, Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of continuing this support.
Emphasizing that every step of the peace process must be handled with care, Zelenskyy stated, "Everything must be prepared correctly so that we can truly end this war and prevent another one from breaking out." Finally, he added, "Thank you to everyone who is helping. Thank you, USA. Thank you, Europe. I am proud of our people."
Trump's criticisms came as Ukraine was expected to respond to a peace plan prepared by the U.S., raising tensions. Trump had also criticized European countries for continuing to purchase oil from Russia.
