Message traffic between Tehran and Washington

According to reports in the Iranian press, the exchange of messages that had been ongoing for some time between Tehran and Washington has been temporarily suspended due to Israel's military operations in Lebanon. Diplomatic sources report that, contrary to US President Donald Trump's statements that the two countries are continuing their talks "rapidly," the current dialogue has been halted for several days.

It is alleged that the main subject of the last message sent by Iran was Israel's attacks in Lebanon. According to Iran, the continuation of Israel's actions has negatively affected the functioning of the back-channel diplomacy Tehran has been conducting with the US.

High-level officials, led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stated in their remarks that the developments in Lebanon are directly reflected in the temporary ceasefire issues between the two countries, announcing that "there will be a response to this."

According to information obtained from Iran's semi-official news agencies, the Tehran administration is keeping the possibility of completely closing the Strait of Hormuz to traffic and opening new fronts at strategic points such as the Bab-el-Mandeb on the table if this situation continues. Furthermore, Iran is conditioning the resumption of indirect talks with the US on Israel ending its attacks in Lebanon and withdrawing from occupied territories.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump claimed in a statement yesterday that "negotiations are continuing at a rapid pace." However, diplomatic sources in the region and the Iranian press agree that these statements do not reflect the current situation.
