Meta ban on Russian media outlets: Banned globally

Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, announced that it has banned several Russian media outlets, including the news agency Rossiya Segodnya and the state channel RT, from its platforms, citing "foreign interference activities."

According to reports in the U.S. press, Meta issued a statement regarding the decision to ban Russian media.

The statement read, "After careful consideration, we have expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets. Rossiya Segodnya, RT, and their related entities are now banned from our apps globally due to foreign interference activities."

ACCUSED OF INTERFERING IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

In a statement on September 4, the U.S. Department of Justice accused several Russia-affiliated media outlets, including RT, and social media platforms of attempting to interfere in the presidential election to be held on November 5, and announced sanctions in this context.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also announced on September 13 that sanctions had been imposed on 3 institutions and 2 individuals linked to the Russian state channel RT, on the grounds that they were engaged in "destabilizing" activities in foreign countries and provided significant support to the Moscow administration in its war in Ukraine.

U.S. intelligence concluded that Russia attempted to interfere in the 2016 presidential election in the country through RT and other media institutions, while Moscow has denied the allegations of interference in the elections.
