Military plane crash in Russia: Rescue efforts underway

In an accident that occurred in Russia's Ivanovo region, a Soviet-made An-22 Antei military transport plane crashed. The fate of the 7-person crew on board has not yet been clarified. Following the incident, a large number of emergency teams were dispatched to the area, and rescue efforts were launched immediately.

It was reported that the crash took place in the Furmanovsky district of the Ivanovo region. Local sources stated that the size of the plane and the terrain conditions are complicating rescue efforts. According to a report by Russia's REN TV, no official statement has been made yet regarding the status of the crew.

FEATURES OF THE AN-22

The An-22 Antei is a model developed during the Soviet Union era and is known as the world's largest turboprop-powered aircraft. Entering service in the 1960s, this aircraft is used to transport military vehicles and heavy ammunition. Featuring four contra-rotating propellers, the aircraft has the capacity to carry heavy loads thanks to its high-wing structure.

In previous statements made by Russia, it was indicated that the Aerospace Forces would retire the An-22s as of 2024. For this reason, it has become a subject of curiosity whether the plane involved in the crash was on active duty or had been transferred to another institution.
