Minister in Nigeria dismissed over corruption allegations

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu following allegations of corruption.

Minister in Nigeria dismissed over corruption allegations

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Tinubu, stated in a written announcement that in line with the administration's commitment to transparency, the President has suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Edu.

Edu, who took office in Nigeria in August 2023, is alleged to have ordered the transfer of 585 million naira (approximately 661 thousand dollars) intended for distribution to vulnerable groups in 4 states of the country into a personal account.

Edu denied the allegations in question, stating that she did not embezzle state funds.
