Missing scissors panic at airport: 36 flights canceled, 201 flights delayed

Employees at New Chitose Airport in Japan's Hokkaido prefecture notified security units last Saturday after noticing that two pairs of scissors were missing from a shop located near the boarding gates.

Authorities, who halted security checks for 2 hours to search for the scissors, had hundreds of passengers go through security screening again when they could not find them.

SCISSORS FOUND IN THE SAME SHOP THE NEXT DAY

It was announced that 36 flights were canceled and 201 flights were delayed, while long passenger queues formed at the airport due to the delay. It was noted that the scissors were found in the same shop the following day.

The Japanese Ministry of Transport, which warned the airport management to increase measures following the incident, stated, "We acknowledge that this incident was caused by a lack of storage and management systems at the store."

The statement, which noted that a recurrence of the incident could lead to security vulnerabilities, added, "We will take measures to increase the awareness of the airport management."
