Models of children in shrouds and Palestinian flags were placed on the giant Christmas tree in Tahrir Square, located in the center of Baghdad, to represent the children killed in Gaza.

Around the tree, soil was placed to symbolize the homes of Palestinians that were destroyed as a result of Israeli attacks.

BIRDS OF PARADISE ON THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Iraqi Riad Abu Muhammad said, "I was moved when I saw the models of the Palestinian martyr children, who are birds of paradise, on the New Year's tree in Baghdad."

Another Iraqi named Muhammad Jasim stated that they are in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestine, adding that they will not be holding New Year's celebrations due to the suffering experienced in Palestine.

Israel has killed 21,822 Palestinians in its attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7. At least 9,000 of those killed are children.
