More than 4.4 billion people prefer urban life
While the number of people residing in cities worldwide has surpassed 4.4 billion, this rate is expected to increase even further in the coming years.
The increase in the urban population worldwide is drawing attention. Recent data reveals that more than 4.4 billion people are living in urban areas. It is estimated that this large group turning toward city life will constitute approximately 70 percent of the world's population by 2050.
Experts state that the rapid population growth in cities brings a number of problems along with it. Air pollution, unsafe transportation, inadequate and unhealthy housing conditions, and climate-related hazards are among the prominent risks of urban life.
Considering that the total world population is at the 8.2 billion level, approximately 54 percent of humanity currently lives in cities. This rate is evaluated as an indicator that the trend toward cities will continue in the coming years.
It is pointed out that urbanization carries significant challenges in terms of health and safety, as well as the opportunities it brings. Experts emphasize that the creation of sustainable urban policies will play a major role in reducing existing risks.
