Munich Airport closed
It has been reported that flights at Germany's Munich Airport have been canceled until 12:00 local time tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions.
In a statement made on Munich Airport's X social media account, it was stated that the rain expected to fall throughout the night, combined with freezing temperatures, would cause extreme icing, and therefore all flights until 12:00 local time have been canceled.
It was reported that the number of flights affected at the airport, which handles more than 770 takeoffs and landings per day, is approximately 330 in the first instance. It was stated that hundreds of passengers were stranded at the airport due to restrictions in air traffic caused by the severe onset of winter in most of Bavaria. It was announced that portable beds were brought to the airport for those stranded.
Rail traffic also affected
On the other hand, snowfall reaching half a meter also affected rail traffic. German Railways (Deutsche Bahn - DB) warned that services from the state of Bavaria toward the state of Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland could be disrupted.
DB asked passengers to postpone non-essential travel until Wednesday, December 6. The snow and sub-zero freezing temperatures in Munich are negatively affecting traffic. While there are disruptions on the city's tram line, numerous traffic accidents have occurred. Many schools remained closed in Augsburg as well as in the Starnberg and Mühldorf am Inn regions. The German Meteorological Service also warned that there could be icing in many parts of the country.
