Named in the Epstein files: That ambassador has been dismissed
The UK Foreign Office has dismissed US Ambassador Peter Mandelson, whose ties to the pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein have come to light. The letters and emails Mandelson wrote to Epstein have caused a major public outcry.
The UK Foreign Office has announced that US Ambassador Peter Mandelson has been dismissed due to his close ties with the billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was known for pedophilia charges.
Mandelson was known as an experienced politician who played a critical role in the Labour Party's success during the era of former Prime Minister Tony Blair. However, he was subjected to intense scrutiny following documents that revealed his links to Epstein.
REQUEST FROM PRIME MINISTER STARMER
The ministry's statement included the following: "In light of additional information contained in Peter Mandelson's emails, the Prime Minister requested that the Foreign Secretary remove him from his post as ambassador."
The statement noted that the depth and scope of Mandelson's relationship with Epstein turned out to be far more extensive than what was known at the time of his appointment.
"FIGHT FOR EARLY RELEASE" MESSAGE
The Sun newspaper revealed emails in documents published on Wednesday showing that Mandelson told Epstein to "fight for early release" just before he entered prison in 2008.
It was also reflected in the documents that Mandelson told Epstein during the same period, "I have great respect for you." In 2008, Epstein was sentenced to 18 months in prison for soliciting a minor for prostitution.
"MY BEST FRIEND" EXPRESSION SURFACES
A remarkable detail also appeared in a 2003 50th birthday album published by Democratic members of the US House Oversight Committee. In this album, Mandelson described Epstein as "my best friend" in a handwritten message.
FOREIGN OFFICE: "NEW INFORMATION HAS EMERGED"
The UK Foreign Office stated that the revelation that Mandelson considered Epstein's first conviction unfair and argued that the decision should be challenged was "new information."
The ministry announced that following these developments, it was decided to dismiss Mandelson from his post.
