'Nazım Hikmet Lodge' opens in Moscow: 'Turkish on its way to becoming an international language in Freemasonry'

The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Turkey has begun representing Turkish as a language of Freemasonry in Russia for the first time. The association had previously implemented the use of Turkish in Masonic rituals in seven other countries, including the United States, Romania, Germany, Belgium, France, and Malta. In this context, the "Nazım Hikmet Lodge" established in Moscow has become the first Russian lodge where Turkish is used.

Association officials stated that they have been working for a long time to spread the use of Turkish as a language of Freemasonry worldwide. It was noted that the new lodge in Moscow was established with the support of the Grand Lodge of Russia and that this initiative is a sign of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries.

Membership in the Nazım Hikmet Lodge will be open not only to citizens of the Republic of Turkey but also to Turks of Azerbaijani, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz origin living in Moscow. In this respect, the lodge is expected to serve as a cultural bridge that brings the Turkic world together.

The opening ceremony was held on October 5, 2025, with the participation of the Grand Master of Russia, Andrey Bogdanov, and the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Turkey, Remzi Sanver. During the ceremony, Bogdanov recited a poem by Nazım Hikmet in Turkish, while Sanver recited the same poem in Russian, in a gesture symbolizing the friendship between the two countries.

More than 70 Masons from Turkey attended the event. The naming of the lodge after "Nazım Hikmet" was interpreted as a reference to both the historical and cultural ties between Turkey and Russia, as well as to the ideals of peace, brotherhood, and humanity.
