Netanyahu cancels Israeli delegation's visit to the US

The visit of the Israeli delegation, which was scheduled to travel to Washington DC at the request of US President Joe Biden to discuss expanding humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and alternative options for the planned military operation in Rafah, was canceled by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the US decision to abstain from, rather than veto, the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

"WE ARE DISAPPOINTED"

In a statement, US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said the US was "disappointed" by Netanyahu's decision, stating, "We are very disappointed that they will not be coming to Washington DC to allow us to have a fulsome conversation about viable alternatives to going in on the ground in Rafah."

Netanyahu had announced prior to the vote that he would cancel the visit if the US did not veto the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that was not conditioned on the release of hostages.
