Netanyahu first blamed, then apologized: 'I made a mistake'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a statement on the social media platform X regarding his remarks that blamed the army and the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet for the security failures during the attacks launched from the besieged Gaza Strip into Israel.

The Israeli Prime Minister used the phrase "I made a mistake" regarding the comments he posted on his social media account last night and deleted shortly after, stating the following:

"What I said after the press conference should not have been said, and I apologize for that. I give my full support to all the heads of the security forces.

I support the Chief of Staff and the commanders and soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces who are on the front lines, fighting for the country. We will win together."

NETANYAHU’S CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT

In his social media post, Netanyahu had attributed the security failure during the attacks launched by Hamas from the blockaded Gaza Strip on October 7 to the Israeli army and the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet.

Prime Minister Netanyahu had stated that "claims that the Prime Minister was informed about the attacks launched from the Gaza Strip on October 7 were baseless, and that, on the contrary, no warning had been received."

Netanyahu had noted that "on the contrary, the Israeli army and Shin Bet (Shabak) had assessed that Hamas was deterred and that calm had been achieved." The Israeli Prime Minister deleted his post after a short while.

While Netanyahu's statements drew intense reactions from Israeli politicians, comments were made that he had "crossed a red line."
