Netanyahu makes ceasefire announcement
Israel will begin ceasefire negotiations to end the war and secure the release of hostages.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made statements during his visit to the Gaza Division.
Netanyahu said he had approved plans presented to him and the Defence Minister by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for the capture of Gaza City, stating: "We are at an important stage. I came to the Gaza Division today to approve the plans presented to me and the Defence Minister by the IDF for the capture of Gaza and the defeat of Hamas."
Netanyahu also said he had ordered negotiations to begin to end the war in the Gaza Strip, adding: "I have given the order to immediately begin negotiations for the release of all our hostages and for ending the war under conditions acceptable to Israel."
Stating that efforts to defeat Hamas and secure the release of all hostages are advancing simultaneously, Netanyahu said: "I greatly appreciate the mobilisation of reservists and the military in the service of this vital mission."
"THE PLANS ARE SOLID"
An unnamed Israeli official said Netanyahu was impressed by the plans for the capture of Gaza City presented to him at the Gaza Division, stating: "The plans are solid."
