According to a statement from the Elysee Palace, French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY
During the call, Macron described Iran's air attack on Israel on April 13 as "unprecedented" and conveyed a message of solidarity with Israel.
Macron stated that Iran's "unacceptable" attack created a risk of military escalation across the region and called on all parties to take the necessary measures to prevent it.
Noting that France is working with its partners to prevent regional escalation, Macron emphasized that they are determined to strengthen measures against Iran's "destabilizing" actions.
CALL FOR CEASEFIRE IN GAZA REITERATED
On the other hand, pointing to the humanitarian situation in Gaza, Macron once again called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
Macron also stated his opposition to an Israeli attack on the city of Rafah, where over 1 million displaced Palestinians have taken refuge, because it would "further worsen the already catastrophic situation in Gaza and escalate tensions."
Addressing the violence perpetrated by illegal Jewish settlers in the West Bank, Macron demanded that Israeli authorities put an end to this situation.
President Macron said that the increasing acts of violence hinder the "understanding of peace based on a two-state solution."
